Our commitment

We want everyone, including people with disabilities, to be able to use Simplifier independently. This page explains how we design and test for accessibility, what works today, what we're still improving, and how to reach us.

This page covers three things:

• this website, emailsimplifier.app;
• the Simplifier reader in the Chrome extension (version 1.0.4), for Gmail and Outlook on the web. The extension isn't publicly listed in the Chrome Web Store yet;
• the Simplifier add-in for Outlook, which is still in preview.

Standards we design and test against

• Website: we design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, published by the W3C and also known as ISO/IEC 40500:2025.
• Chrome extension reader: we design and test against WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
• Outlook add-in: the add-in is a web page inside Outlook, so we design it against WCAG 2.2 Level AA too.
• Documents: Simplifier doesn't create files or documents, so there are none to test.

Conformance status

W3C describes conformance as fully conformant, partially conformant or not conformant. Our status for each part, as of September 24, 2026:

• Website: partially conformant. Every page passed our automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks and our keyboard, zoom and contrast checks in every display setting. We haven't yet tested it with screen readers, so we don't claim full conformance. See Known limitations.
• Chrome extension reader (version 1.0.4): partially conformant. The reader passed automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks and keyboard tests on a test email thread in every reader background. Screen-reader testing and testing inside live Gmail and Outlook are still to come.
• Outlook add-in (preview): not yet tested. We make no conformance claim for it until it has been tested inside Outlook.

Accessibility features

On this website

• Everything works with a keyboard, and a "Skip to main content" link comes first.
• A visible focus outline on every link and control, including in Windows contrast themes.
• Light, Dark and System appearance.
• Enhanced contrast, Reduce Motion and Solid backgrounds, in the settings below.
• Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen and 400% zoom without sideways scrolling, and keep working with larger text and wider text spacing.
• The header never covers the link or button you're on.
• Form errors explain what went wrong and what to do next, and are announced.

In the Simplifier reader

• The reader is a labeled dialog, and Tab and Shift+Tab stay inside it. When the reader fills the whole window, the page behind it is also hidden from screen readers.
• Escape closes the innermost open menu first, then the reader. Done also closes it and returns you to where you were.
• "Show original" hands the page back to Gmail or Outlook, so you can tab through the original message.
• Headings, lists, tables, links and quoted text from the email keep their structure.
• Text size from 50% to 200%, nine typefaces, and five backgrounds: System, Light, Sepia, Gray and Dark. Some typefaces and backgrounds need Simplifier Pro.
• Text, links and controls meet contrast requirements in every background.
• The reader follows your device's Reduce Motion setting.

Display & accessibility settings

System follows your device's settings for appearance, contrast, motion and transparency. Browsers only share some device settings with websites (for example, Safari doesn't share Reduce Transparency), so you can also turn a setting on here. A choice can only add to what your device asks for. Your choices stay in this browser, on this site only. The same settings are in the Display menu at the top of every page.

How we test

For this release, on September 24, 2026, we used:

• automated checks with axe-core 4.12 (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules) on every page, in its menu, dialog, demo and error states, in Chromium and WebKit, in Light and Dark, Enhanced contrast, Reduce Motion and Solid backgrounds, and in forced colors (Chromium);
• keyboard-only walks forward and backward through every page, measuring each focus outline;
• checks that no focused item is hidden under the header, at desktop size and 400% zoom;
• reflow at 320 pixels wide, and WCAG text-spacing overrides;
• measured contrast for every color pair in every theme and site accent;
• a test email thread in the Simplifier reader: automated checks in every reader background, and keyboard tests of the menus, Escape, focus return and "Show original".

Screen-reader testing with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS and NVDA on Windows is scheduled after this release. We'll list it here once it's done.

Tested environments

• Chromium 148 (headless, Playwright 1.60) on macOS 27
• WebKit 26.4, the engine behind Safari (headless, Playwright 1.60) on macOS 27

Known limitations

• Screen readers not yet tested. We haven't yet run VoiceOver or NVDA through the site or the reader. Status: scheduled after this release.
• Reader tested on a test thread, not live mail. Gmail and Outlook change their pages often, and their own screens are outside our control. Status: live checks are part of the screen-reader testing.
• Extension settings and toolbar popup. These aren't covered by our automated checks yet. Status: planned.
• Outlook add-in. The add-in is in preview and hasn't been tested inside Outlook. It uses the same reader as the Chrome extension. Status: will be tested before release.
• Payment and sign-in pages. Stripe runs the checkout and billing pages, and WorkOS runs the sign-in page. We test our pages up to the handoff. If one of those pages blocks you, email us and we'll help you finish another way.

• Email [email protected] with the subject "Accessibility". We reply within 2 business days.
• Tell us the page or feature and what you were trying to do.
• You don't need to tell us about a disability.
• You can ask for information in an accessible format, such as plain text, or for a phone call arranged by email.
• No CAPTCHA, account or form is required.

If a barrier stops you from finishing a task, our first reply offers another way to finish it where one exists, and we send a fix plan or status within 10 business days. Our response times cover every kind of request.
